the word made flesh
The word Advent comes from the Latin adventus, meaning “arrival.” It marks the coming of the presence of God himself, Jesus, Emmanuel, “God with us.” For centuries, followers of Jesus have set aside the weeks leading up to Christmas to pause, wait, and prepare their hearts for his coming. It is a season meant to slow us down and turn our attention toward the mystery of God drawing near.
This year, our theme is Incarnate | The Word Made Flesh, drawn from John 1: “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.” Together we will reflect on the wonder of the Incarnation as God enters creation, light breaks into darkness, and the divine takes on human form.
Advent reminds us that the God who spoke creation into being has spoken again in Jesus, the Word who became flesh. Come join us as we enter the mystery of His presence together.
The Season of Advent
WHAT TO EXPECT:
Our Advent gatherings will be on the shorter side, welcoming participation from all ages. Together, we will sing, light the Advent wreath, reflect on the scriptures, pray, and partake in the Bread & Cup. While a full meal will not be provided each Sunday night, light snacks, hors d'oeuvres, and coffee will be available afterward as we linger in fellowship.
