SUNDAY RHYTHMS - SONGS & STORIES

It is deeply important to the life of River & Way that we take time to sit around the table and participate in community life together. In our practice of Sunday rhythms, on the last Sunday of every other month, we come together at The Tower to share a meal and bring the things God has placed inside of us to the community. We create time to share, edify, and encourage one another through songs and stories.

All kids will join us for the meal. Please bring a brunch item to share with everybody. After the meal together, bring whatever the Lord has placed inside of you to bring to our community gathering. If you are a musician, feel free to bring a song, or if you bake, bring something you made, or if you are an artist, bring a drawing or painting to share with the community, or you can also bring something that God showed you from the Scriptures this week or even a broken prayer or an answered prayer request. 

After the meal, we will spend time together singing songs and telling stories. This time is meant to edify and build up the church body; but please don’t over-spiritualize this idea. This can be sharing what you read in the scriptures this week, sharing what God has been doing in your life, or share a word that builds up the church. Think of this like a new home church community sharing their lives together after a meal.

As you consider what you are bringing to the community, do not place undue pressure on yourself. Some people have yet to discover what God has placed inside of them to bring, some people have gifts that may not be for the community gathering, and others don't feel safe or comfortable enough to bring their gift. These are all okay, and as we lean into this space, we will learn how to do this together.

We want to gather Jesus' body together with each person bringing the gifts that Jesus has put inside of them to actively contribute to the River & Way family.

As a regular part of the life of River & Way, we are hosting our 3rd Annual Vision and Prayer night (AVP). This gathering is a place to celebrate what God has been doing in the life of our church over the last year, and a time to look forward to what we believe God is leading us into. It will be a time to celebrate the past year, share pastoral vision for the coming year, give a financial update, pray, and sing together.

We will be discussing our vision of House Churches that are launching in 2023. Please make every effort to be there that night!

This year, Christmas Day lands on a Sunday. We will not be gathering on Christmas Day. The first Sunday gathering back (post Advent in homes) will be Sunday, January 1st at 10:00 AM.

Join us on December 24th at 3:30 PM as we end Advent season together as a church at our Christmas Eve Gathering at the Tower. We celebrate the coming of God’s promises fulfilled in Jesus Emmanuel - “God with us.”

December 21st is the longest night of the year. We will gather together and spend the evening practicing a liturgy of lament. Lament is the biblical practice of taking our hurt and pain to God while simultaneously declaring our trust in God. Jesus welcomes our grief and is acquainted with it.

We want to fully acknowledge the dark and broken places in our world and our lives, and it feels appropriate to name our hurt and pain together as we pray, read scripture, sing, and look toward our hope in Jesus.

There is Kid Care this evening for Infants to Sixth Grade. Please let us know if you will need Kid Care by REGISTERING HERE This will help us prepare for the evening.

This Advent season (November 27- December 18), instead of gathering at The Tower as we usually do, we will practice gathering as the church together in homes around the table.

We are creating a space for our 4th-6th grade students to hang out Sunday evening November 13th, from 4:30 PM - 6:30 PM. As this age group joins the rest of the church family on Sundays in The Chapel, we want to create a space for them to connect and hang out as a community. Dinner will be provided, parent(s) are welcome to join, however, we ask that only this specific age group from 4th-6th grade attend. If you can be there, please RSVP here so we can prepare food.

On Sunday Serve, we will not be gathering as we regularly do, but instead, we will turn toward the city in service. Whether it be serving our houseless neighbors, beautifying downtown, or prayer walk; we want to carve out time to serve our city for the sake of Jesus and His kingdom. 

Please come prepared and ready to serve! We will gather for a short time of singing and praying at The Tower at 10:00 AM before we release into the city. We will have varied age-appropriate options that we can jump in and serve as a group. 

We practice a rhythmic approach on Sundays to help form in us a posture of gathering together around the bread & cup, serving downtown and those in need, as well as celebrating what Jesus is doing among us.

Hello River & Way Family! 

We hope this email finds you well! We have some important news to share about this coming Sunday’s gathering. 

Unfortunately, we were informed Friday that the central Air Conditioning unit in the Chapel at The Tower would not be fixed in time for our Sunday Gathering. With the extremely hot weather forecasted this weekend, we have decided it’s best not to gather at The Tower on Sunday, September 4th.

So, is there a new plan for Sunday? With the short notice of our facilities being out of use, we invite you to consider doing one of two things this Sunday: 

1. HOUSE CHURCH: Grab a few friends and family you know and gather for brunch on Sunday morning. Pray for one another, and consider reading and studying the passage we would have been teaching through - Acts 10:1-48. 

2. VISIT ANOTHER CHURCH: We have a high value on church unity, and this pause on our Sunday gathering can be a great opportunity to be a guest at a church  to experience what Jesus is doing in the body of Christ throughout the city.

We hope the A/C will be in working condition and plan to resume our Sunday gatherings on September 11th; we will communicate if that is not the case. Thanks so much for your understanding and flexibility!
